I wrote this poem the night before my grandmother passed away.  It, like so many of my poems, expresses exactly what I was feeling at the time I wrote it.  I loved her dearly and I will miss her.

I love you more than you will ever know

Sometimes emotions I cannot show

It never was about being cool

Or fear that I would appear a fool

My thoughts are troubled, this I cannot shake

My heart breaks with each breath you take

Wondering which breath will be your last

I look back on my life and our past

We never were as close as we should've been

But I've always seen you as more than a friend

You gave me comfort, warmth and shelter

Even though your life was helter-skelter

I don't know how you made it this far

I know your entire life was hard

I'm sad you're going, but happy for you

Your pain will be over; Heaven's waiting for you

You've always had a heart that was pure

You've always had love that would endure

I'll see you in Heaven, though for now we part

But while you're gone, you'll have a place in my heart
